FAQs

  • What does Boon mean?

A “boon” is a thing that’s helpful or beneficial. But beyond that “BOON” is our acronym for “Born Out Of Necessity.”

    What is BOON?

BOON is a National Network/Community for Children’s & Youth Ministry Faith-Leaders who are either Black/African American or serve in a predominantly Black/African American setting.

    Who is BOON for?

We serve Black/African American Faith-Leaders who serve children and youth in a Faith-Based setting. We also welcome Faith-Leaders who serve children and/or youth in a predominantly Black/African American Faith-Based setting.

    How do I join BOON?

Join our Facebook Group! Our National Network connects virtually on our Facebook Group: The BOON Community. So head here and get connected to the community.

We will be launching local BOON communities in two cities in 2025. So head here and let us know if you want to be updated on our local launches. We might be coming to a city near you!

  • I’d love to learn more about local BOON Communities/Networks. Tell me more!

Well, we’re still in the process of developing what they’ll look like. But, what we know so far is that they’ll be gatherings of Faith-Leaders who are within the same area. The plan is to have local groups led by a Local Leader (just someone responsible for coordinating and bringing people together). The groups will gather quarterly (or as frequently as they’d like). Our BOON team will do the heavy lifting of providing conversation starters and things to do when you connect. Head here and let us know if you want to be updated on our local launches. OR, if you want to apply to be a local leader, still head there and let us know that, too!

I want to start a local BOON Community in my area. How do I do that?

Local communities will launch in 2025. Head here and let us know if you’re interested in being among the first to launch!

We already have a group of Black Children’s & Youth Ministry leaders in our area. Can we collaborate with BOON?

We’d love to have a conversation about what a collaboration can look like. Reach out to our team here to get a conversation started.

  • What does BOON do?

All of our community connections are currently happening virtually. Every month we rotate ministry-related topics and provide the space for open dialogue, access to resources, and collaborative conversations on Zoom to dive in even deeper. We provide topics & resources, but the community is meant to be collaborative and to power itself. Therefore, we encourage those within the community to share resources & research discoveries and to post any questions/topics.

  • How can BOON help me “amplify my influence” in the broader world of Children’s & Youth Ministry?

We’re in the process of building our database in order to serve as a hub that provides opportunities for Black leaders. Be it through preaching, speaking, training, writing, podcasting, employment opportunities, or the like; we’ll help Black Faith-Leaders to have a stronger voice in the field of Children’s & Youth Ministry. Interested in getting the process started to receive BOON Opportunities? Get started here.

How do I gain access to BOON opportunities?

Educational Opportunities: As educational opportunities become available, we’ll share them on The BOON Community Facebook Group. and through our monthly emails.

Talent Matching: We’ve just started to build our database. Let us know you’re interested in joining it here.

Once you submit the form, someone from our team will contact you within 48 hours. We’ll do an introductory screening. Then you’ll submit an application followed by a more formal interview. All of this helps us get to know you more so we can provide great matches.

I’m interested in partnering with BOON to find Black Next Gen Talent. What do I do?

We’re still in the process of building our database and learning our BOON Community. Our goal is to officially begin matching Black Next Gen Talent with Opportunity mid-2025.

Join the database to be the first to know once this goes live.
